Friday the 13th (NES) is Very DIfficult
This game is about wandering around a summer camp as a camp counseller in an effort to save the children from a serial killer, hoping to avoid getting killed yourself. This game has nostalgic value for me. As a kid I saw others playing and would be scared senseless by Jason's abrupt attacks, which can come at any time. I bought it again now so I could have a chance to conquer it for once and overcome how scary the game always has been to me. Other games that scared and overwhelmed me as much are Jaws and Maniac Mansion, both of which I own and have now beaten. I love how tense and scary it is. I hate how difficult it is to navigate and how random the item appearances are. A lot of beating this game is random chance, and a game should never be like that because it takes away from the satisfaction of improving one's skills to overcome the challenges. The game was made too difficult and repetitive, and these factors combined with the random chance of item appearances are what keep the game from being too enjoyable. As a game I'd say it was poorly designed because of the ridiculous difficult and steep, steep learning curve, but if you want a ridiculous challenge and don't mind not being able to save your progress, this is the game for you.

An epic masterpiece.
This game is great. A true successor to the series for its final outing. It's more polished and bug-free than just about any other game available, and the graphics, sound, and voice-acting are of the highest caliber. I love the way Kojima's team executed a change of pace in the form of a more Bond-like world-hopping adventure rather than using the classic 1-long-mission setup, but in that way the game can also seem shorter than it is as the tendency is to think of each chapter as an individual mission, each of which in comparison to traditional Metal Gear missions is incredibly short, though the whole game adds up to a very complete and fulfilling experience. My biggest gripe is that the game relies much more on the action element than it has in the past, with Snake fighting through battlefields in almost every mission. For that reason I miss Metal Gear Solid 3, almost all of which can be sneaked through, creating a very "I'm hiding from the boss, who's out looking for me for days in the jungle, but I'm gonna be in his face before he knows it!" feel. The added action is not to say that the action isn't the best-executed Call of Duty-style game play out there. This is a game to buy a PS3 for, but if you buy a PS3 be sure to get Bioshock, too, which re-affirmed my faith in the ability of a first-person shooter to be super awesome (especially after the weakly-made Haze).

Populous - A Prototype Real-Time Strategy Game
This is one of the first strategy games that allowed you to take on the role of a god in charge of helping a little civilization of humans. You can sculpt the land, train soldiers, and conquer other tribes on the planet. I seem to remember there being dozens of levels with varying difficulties and different landscape themes (grasslands, checkerboards, snow, candy land, etc.). This game has nostalgic value that shades my view of it because my older brother used to play it all the time. From the little bit I've played so far and in the past, the game stacks up to be a decent real-time strategy game, albeit a bit of a basic one. From what I know it was an idea of Peter Molyneux, the same guy who'd later come up with Dungeon Keeper, Black and White, and Fable. There is a sequel to this game, so I want to check it out sometime. If you want a real-time strategy game with 16-bit graphics that is a lot like a primitive Age of Empires or Warcraft, then this is for you. But apart from the nostalgic value, this concept has been refined a lot since this game was made.
