The Bewitched Statue of Salem MA - the background
Ever wondered why the Samantha Stephens statue ended up in Salem? In June, 1970, the Bewitched cast filmed the Salem Saga episodes in Salem. When the 7th season aired in the Fall 1970, Salem was portrayed as the Witch City and the show advertised the city to a world wide audience. The reception to Elizabeth Montgomery and the cast was so enthusiastic that Bill Asher predicted that “Liz would be directing traffic in Salem for many years to come.” 35 years later, TV Land suggested the statue of Samantha at Lappin Park to Salem City officials and the rest is history. The book gives background info on the story and the turmoil the divided city experienced when the statue of Samantha Stephens was unveiled in June 2005.

Doctor Zhivago, Omar Sharif
1 of 1 found this helpful Doctor Zhivago is David Lean 's measured and beautiful adaptation of Boris Pasternak 1958-acclaimed novel. Made in 1965 and winner of five Academy Awards, starring Omar Sharif and Julie Christie, Doctor Zhivago is a cinematic masterpiece, a visually stunning and expressively powerful love story set in the foreground of life in Russia during the latter days of Czarist Russia and the turmoil of the Bolshevik Revolution of 1917.
The film features gorgeous landscape and romantic scenes set to Maurice Jarre's haunting music. Lean uses Panavision cinematography to boast his landscapes that are often remote and cold is contrasted with the emotional fires burning within Zhivago and Lara -- a romanticized version of an illicit relationship without moral dilemmas or conflicts. The romance is amid the opulence of Russia before the war and the violent social upheaval that followed. Like many Russians, Zhivago's life is swept away with the radical currents of the Revolution.
It is a relatively simple story at the core, it takes on a dense structure because of the events of 1917.

Antarctic Expedition through storms and icebergs
2 of 2 found this helpful In the golden age of exploration, shortly before World War I, Ernest Shackleton and 27 men set out to become the first team of explorers to cross Antarctica from one end to the other. And here starts the ill-fated journey of one of the most awesome "man against nature" sagas ever told. Five months after departing England to Antarctica, the ship, Endurance, became icebound and entrapped. Shortly after Shackleton issued an abandon ship order, the ship crumbled under the pressure of ice and sank. The documentary then traces the men's perilous journey through storms and icebergs and ends in a dramatic climax of Shackleton's heroic attempts to rescue his men from Elephant Island.
The film, peppered with photographs and 35mm footage, taken by the expedition photographer, is haunting. Yet it stands as a testament to the human spirit of survival, leadership, and endurance.
