Hornby TTS Chips

If you purchase a Hornby DCC Ready Locomotive, to be used on a DCC Track, then you will need to fit a DCC Decoder. Hornby’s TTS (Twin Track Sound) Chip is a DCC Decoder with Sounds and seems to be the most affordable Sound upgrade available for DCC Ready Locos. Reviews I have read suggest that alternative Sound Chips, which are over twice the price, sound very realistic whilst being able to synchronise the Chuffing sound with the Speed / Wheel Con-Rod positions. For me the TTS Chips are fine but may leave aficionados somewhat un-convinced and disappointed. TTS Chips include Locomotive Specific sounds such as Shunting, Chuffing & Whistles. Other Sounds included seem Generic in nature, such as Brake Squeal, Guard’s Whistle, Coal Shovelling, Coupling Clank, Door Slamming and for a bit of fun the sizzling Fireman’s Breakfast. I have now fitted three of my Locomotives with TTS Chips (Classes A1/A3, A4 and Coronation) which locate inside their Tender’s. This is a fiddly process which, rather annoyingly, requires some Fettling as the speaker does not fit as well as it should. That said the end result is worth the effort and should put a smile on your face. All in all, the TTS Chip is a nice way to add another dimension of enjoyment, whilst controlling your Locomotive Collection.
