Masks with valves need the valve to be closed. The wearer does not need to take this step with the 1860 as it is valve-less. It come is two sizes: standard large and small. Small is for adults with fine bones. 3M has a video which shows you the proper adjustment and fitting of this mask as well as how to put it on and take it off safely.
