SS Power Supply
I purchased this Astron SS-30M to replace an old Astron RS-35 that died after many years of use.
Since it would be hooked up to my new Icom 7300, I didn't want to risk any damage to the 7300 and went looking for a "New" power supply and checked out the reviews of switching power supplies, I found that most reviews state that while some computer switching supplies will work, they create spurious RF noise and should not be used, but that high quality switching power supplies like the Astron SS series do not produce this type of problem.
I shopped around and found this one on eBay for $120 +shipping.
The three things I noticed right away.
1. The terminals are the clamp type, not the old lug style with nuts & washer, this means the radio wire(s) will only require striping & tinning to insert into the power supply terminals and tighten the clamping screws, this uses the only terminals on the power supply, if you need to hook up anything else to this power supply you’ll have to use a terminal block.
2. The voltage is adjustable by a screw on the side of the unit.
3. The meters are large and bright.
The only thing I would add to this power supply is an adjustment for the brightness of the meter lights.

Big functions in a small package
0 of 1 found this helpful I already own the 2200H and IC-V8000 mobiles, this little guy does everything they do in 3/4 of the space.
I like that I can select one of 3 colors for background color, but unlike the 8000 I can't use the F1 & F2 to flip the color & dimming feature, or maybe I haven't figured it out yet.

The SWR is at zero, handled 100 watts from my Kenwood TS-440SAT without any problem.
