Almost a Perfect Camera
4K footage from this camera is nothing short of amazing. I have already landed new jobs just from having this camera.
Even the 1080 HD from this camera elevates quality to a whole new level (compared to the picture quality from my Sony EX3).
The blacks are super clean. Even at 12dB gain, there is very little noise.
Being able to color grade 10bit 4:2:2 footage is a real pleasure (compared to the 8bit 4:2:0 footage from the EX3). There is so much flexibility!
The only negative is the lens. While it is an excellent lens, at F4 it certainly is not a fast lens. And with the crop factor from the sensor, the 28mm is really something like 42mm - definitely not handheld/run and gun friendly.
The solution? I bought an E to EF Metabones Speed Booster Ultra so I can put Canon lenses on the camera. In fact, I just shot 80% of a plant tour with a Canon 16-35mm f2.8 lens.
The guy I bought this camera from on ebay said that he was selling it because it was too much camera for him. I get that. You do have to take the time to learn this camera. Even though I have always been a Sony guy, this camera has extensive menus, and if you have never shot SLOG before, you ready have to test it out before using it on a paying job. After 8 days of shooting on three different projects, though, I already feel 90% comfortable with this camera.
I highly recommend it.
