short fiction, outside of the box
Challenging, funny, insightful, profound - it's all here. DFW was one of the finest writers to have come down the pike. I mourn our collective loss.

classic Zappa
While not as well-defined as Hot Rats, Chunga's Revenge is poised somewhere between the overall feeling of Hot Rats and the later musings of Fillmore East and Just Another Band from L.A., with Flo and Eddie lending a hand on vocals. As a result, it has something of a hybridized feeling to it, lacking the conceptual integrity of his other records of that era, but it's still just as enjoyable to listen to.

Of all of Captain Beefheart's later performances, this one finds him at his peak. Arguably the best incarnation of his backing group, the Magic Band, as well. Cohesive and accomplished but also spontaneous and raw.
