Believe the hype!
1 channel quit working on my computer, and I stream music 2+hrs/day. Bought this sound card cheap just to have the stereo sound, the 5.1 was just a bit of a bonus for me. I hooked it up to my Altec lansing ACS 41's, and my Energy 100 watt 8" sub. Started playing music and WOW! I could actually hear instruments I couldn't hear before. The first thing that hit me was that I could actually picture the head of the drumstick hitting the snare drum. I saw other reviews where people talked about a difference in sound, but took them with a grain of salt. I am hooked. Already looking for one with remote volume control, and the complete software package. Just a little side note; if you have basic understanding of electronics, keep your eyes open at garage sales & thrift stores for a printer-style power supply. I have an 18v 2.5amp power supply hooked up to 2 pairs of altec lansing computer speakers, and they sound AWESOME. I am doing a bit of investigation, and checking to see if they will take 24v. More voltage in=more power out! I also got a 15v 8amp (120 watt) power supply for $2, a 30 watt per channel car stereo amp, and it rocks my main speakers! People cannot believe the sound quality, and sheer volume of my setup. I have about $50 total into speakers, powered sub, sound card, power supplies and the amp. I have it all tucked away neatly so people only see what is necessary. Be creative. You don't have to spend a fortune to be a fan of fine sound!
