Informative and practical book
Pros - points out that watching TV (and now the advice would probably apply to most use of the internet) is mainly for entertainment.

Another helpful, inspiring Tracy book
This is the fourth Tracy book I've bought. I find his writing motivating and practical. I start doing helpful actions or stop (or reduce) doing hurtful ones every time I read a Tracy book.

very helpful book
2 of 2 found this helpful I'm over 60 years old and decided to try learning Spanish. I tried an online program from the library but had trouble making much progress. Then I started a CD program that was very helpful, providing much vocabulary. I've made hundreds of flashcards to learn it, and it lets me hear and practice pronunciation. I've made slow progress, and I'm not quite through it.
Recently I decided to take a Spanish class at a local community college, but a Hispanic friend convinced me I could do the learning on my own, so I looked for some kind of textbook online. I look at the negative reviews to steer me away from books, but the reviews for Easy Spanish Step-by-Step convinced me it was worth a try.
It is! it answers lots of questions I'd wondered about while using the CD program, and it provides a systematic way to tackle the language. I'm able to sail through it for now because of learning so much from the CD program, but the book also is helping me quickly add to my vocabulary. I'm in chapter 2 now, and getting lots of practice on ser and estar, and before I finish chapter 2 it has me read a couple paragraphs to practice reading comprehension. My previous study only dealt with present tense, but this book has chapters for several tenses, reflexive verbs, direct and indirect objects, and on and on. . . .
I am now studying an hour a day, excited by how comprehensive this book is for a first year of learning. I hope to have learned the book well (15 chapters) within six months, although I will need to supplement it with listening and speaking practice somewhere else. After trying a few other methods, I've found a book that helps me help me stick with Spanish and learn enough to probably get around with my beginning Spanish fairly quickly. I seem to need an organized book. Online or CD study isn’t enough to help me stick with learning consistently. When I get through this one, I'll look for another book, but this book is one of the best investments I’ve ever made.
