knonitz with marsh
There have been some very fine sax pairings, Gene Ammons Sonny Stitt, Dexter Gordon Wardell Grey and Al Cohn and Zoot Sims, naming just three pairs of sax players.
In most cases when their are two players playing saxophones together live or on cd the usual jam session tactics take place. Each trying to out blow each other often with dire results, eventually honking and screaming when they run out of ideas. Where as Konitz and Marsh as Sims and Cohn don't, its music first and they complement each other. Though they Konitz and Marsh both come from the Lennie Tristano school, the music isn't dry and cold and the dreaded word cool, but full of warmth, a sample track to try is Topsy, played at perfect tempo. Highly recommended.

Jim Hall
There are many guitarists out there who believe that they are being paid by the note, fortunately Jim Hall does not fall ito the category. Jim Hall has the greatest of pedigree, playing with Bill Evans, Chico Hamilton, Jimmy Guiffre, Art Farmer and Sonny Rollins. In his hands the quality of the sound of the guitar is paramount. He constructs wonderful lyrical solos.
Here on this album he plays with some fine musicians, I wish I could have been there.

Inside hi-fi
I have had this on LP, so it was nice to be able to get it on cd. An album of Lee Konitz playing Tenor as well as alto is rare, so it's a treat. On Kary's Trance Lee Konitz plays both alto and tenor so it's a double bonus.
The last four tracks has Sal Mosca on piano, a wonderful pianist, unfortunately finding albums by him is a rare as hen's teeth, so the pairing of Konitz and Mosca can't be bad. Now if you think these so called musicians can't swing listen to 'All of me'
