CRY MACHO *2021 / Clint Eastwood / Dwight Yoakam* NEW Region B Blu Ray
16 September 2022
Clint is still Macho
I know a few critics have said that Clint should quit at 90, and I wouldn't expect kids into Marvel to go for this, but I have been a fan of Clint from the TV Rawhide days and followed him from there. OK, so Cry Macho is no Dollars Western, Unforgiven, or Dirty Harry, but I still enjoyed it. Clint can still throw a punch, befriend a young wayward boy, and at 90 years of age prove that love can be found again. To me, Clint is an icon and I can't desert him now. Warner Bros didn't have faith in this film, and didn't release it in the UK on Blu Ray, but I bought a German copy with English language.
Savage Guns: Four Classic Westerns (Volume 3) (Blu-ray)

Four Interesting Westerns
Savage Guns is a boxed set of 4 Italian Westerns remastered for blu ray. I have been watching these films for years but they are usually poorly presented in the past with inferior scratched and blurred prints, and very often cut to pieces. Arrow Video care about the genre and present them in pristine condition, in the original screen size ratio (no dreadful pan and scan!), hours of extras with critics and crew discussing the films, and four audio commentaries from different people who offer interesting information. Some critics in the past have dismissed the Italian Westerns, saying that they are more or less all the same. This box-set proves them wrong, as all four films are quite diverse. There is a man who wants to settle down but has to avenge his sister's murder, a drunken outlaw who seeks redemption, a social political drama set in 1920s Spain but looks similar to a Western, and a strange journey of four very different people that seems to be a semi-supernatural allegory with religious connotations.... When I watched these films decades ago, many people said that they were just Westerns that had no real value and will be forgotten. It's not often that I am right in life, but I as I sit back and enjoy the films again, I'm pleased to say that this time I'm glad that they have been proven wrong, and I'm sure that more Spaghetti Westerns will continue to be released in the future.
LIPPY THE LION & HARDY HAR HAR: COMPLETE SERIES (DVD) UK Compatible

Hardy Doesn't Laugh - I Did
All 52 Lippy the Lion and Hardy Har Har cartoons are on two DVD discs. Like Laurel and Hardy, these two characters are always down on their luck, struggling to survive incompetently in a series of misadventures. Lippy is the optimist, always the instigator of their actions, while Hardy, unlike the characteristics of his hyena breed, doesn't laugh and is the complete antithesis of his pal.... A born pessimist. He knows that every one of Lippy's schemes will end in failure, and every cartoon he is heard to say: "Oh dear. Oh my!" When I ask people what favourite Hanna and Barbera cartoons they like, it's usually The Flintstones, Scooby Doo, Top Cat, Yogi, The Jetsons, etc... These are good shows, but no one yet has mentioned Lippy the Lion and Hardy Har Har. This is a shame, and they should be household names with people doing impressions of the paranoid non-laughing hyena as they struggle through the day to day cruel banalities of existence. Oh dear oh my.... I just know that no one is going to like this review.......
