Multi-fuel packable wonder stove
1 of 1 found this helpful Opted for the steel Firebox GEN2 Nano mainly for the price so I could try out the concept. From a functionality standpoint, it's fantastic as I was able to use different fuel sources based on what was available at the time or what I was in the mood to burn. You can immediately feel the robust construction (made in the USA) of the steel model, and you get a sense that it won't warp under normal conditions burning wood sticks inside the fuel chamber. But, honestly, what I like most about it is that it's just a cool design - flips open and folds flat so easy. The video tutorials by the inventor are fun to watch and copy yourself. I like using my Trangia with it since the Nano becomes a windshield and and an adjustable pot stand. Only thing to watch out for is the hot coals can fall from the bottom ash pan, and will burn the area immediately underneath it. I don't have any carbon felt pads, so I just use one of my steel camping plates as a fire ring. If you don't have a camp fire set up to cook on, this is pretty fun to use if you want a bio-fuel stove.

Fun UL backpacker alcohol stove for spring to summer outings
If you're into ultralight backpacking/hiking and titanium gizmos, then you've probably come across the Vargo Triad. This alcohol stove is scant in weight, well constructed, and has adjustable pot stand legs - which you don't find on many other alcohol stoves. It requires about 1.5 ounces of denatured alcohol to get it started, but you can use one of the bottom legs as a spout to save any unburned fuel. I call it a fun UL stove because it has an aesthetically pleasing design, titanium, and you just want to own one. But, it does have some functionality issues. It blows out really easily and requires 1.5 ounces to be loaded to start it (needs a primer pool in concave well). So, you need a windscreen for sure and moderate weather conditions for it to stay lit and to focus the flame. If you're down to 1 ounce of fuel, you can't light it (unless you plug the well hole and hope the pool has enough heat for a 1 cup boil). A plus is that you can flip the Triad upside down and use the flat side to hold as Esbit tablet. I give it 4 stars for it's fun factor and nifty concept, and you'll definitely want to use when you can.

Good to 59 degrees as a sleeping bag alternative
3 of 3 found this helpful Saw a lot of reviews using the SOL Escape bivvy as a UL sleeping bag alternative so I picked one up to see for myself. My test night was 59 degrees and 90% humidity, and the Escape performed well with just a fleece sweater and boxer shorts. I'm 5'10" and 165 pounds, and I didn't feel claustrophobic. I feel that putting a sleeping bag inside would make tight, but doable to boost your temperature rating. A negative is the short, side zipper, makes it hard to get in and ventilate. I agree with other users that, by itself, 55 degrees is as low as you want to go when fully clothed. Adding a fleece liner will get you down 50 degrees in my opinion, and overall the construction is solid so it can work as a sleeping bag. A full length zipper should be the next gen. Fun to take out into the field if you like experimenting with gear.
