The La's-Self-titled
This recording is a great example of a band unknown for its songs other than the 'big hit'. 'There She Goes' is a great song infused with a hooky riff that takes you back, way back. But if you delve deeper, you'll find a batch of songs that expand on the theme of great pop songwriting. I would have given this an excellent rating if not for the 'rushed' production. Apparently, the band felt that way about it and I see their point. They should have been given more freedom in getting the best sound possible. Mind you, it might be because I bought this on cassette but this band sure had what it takes to find their voice. Recommended!!!

Woodface-Crowded House
This cd was recommended by the All Music Guide. They described it as being the peak of Crowded House's powers as I had always been a 'distant' fan, not wanting to get too close to its often too cute for comfort music. Mind you, the Finn brothers, Neil especially, had already established a large canon of great songs with Split Enz and probably needn't further the pop genre any further. But, alas, Crowded House come about and I remember seeing them a lot on Much Music and thinking how acoomodating they were, how funny and witty. Which was their music really, but nothing more, nothing less. But this cd is a step above the rest. The Finns are back and they want to let you know that they have written some great songs. The proof is in this cd!
