The Shape Of Jazz To Come
1 of 1 found this helpful I was told this was Jazz that was not to be missed. The story is Coleman decided to record jazz music with his band that had no chord changes, and the music was entirely based on the mood of the soloist. The lack of chords demands the soloists to be creative. I found Coleman's playing mechanical. His sound has harsh and odd rhythms. The melodies while unconventional have an emotional power in them. Coleman's harmonies retain the basic bebop improvisation and melodies. His chord progressions; contrast between melodies and rhythms is unusual. Having said that there is something in the album that compels someone to listen, not unlike Miles Davis' Bitches Brew - the beauty of this album is its uniqueness. Further its influence on jazz musicians who wanted to experiment and create their own kind sound cannot be denied. I appreciate Coleman's challenging innovations and his willingness to take a risk and redefine Jazz, unfortunately for me its one of those Jazz albums I will listen to once or twice a year to see if I can hear what all the experts are hearing, because I am missing it.

This cookbook is like many older cookboo...
This cookbook is like many older cookbooks, in that it assumes the reader is already familiar with cooking technique that many homecooks are not familiar with today...also they use cooking terms that are rarely used anymore. Having said that the few recipes I have tried have come out fabulous.
