Relay failure on 71 Honda CL100 Scrambler
Relay was mounted in 6V system of 1971 Honda Scrambler CL100. Relay appeared to function normally initially (approximately 15 minutes under battery power alone). Once engine was started, relay burned up about 6 minutes into engine run. Wires to relay and relay were extremely hot to the touch with all other wiring in the harness maintaining a normal temperature and function. This pointed to a problem internal to the relay which causes excessive current flow resulting in relay failure and potential damage to factory wiring. Based on this experience I cannot recommend this relay for installation on a 71 model Honda CL100 scrambler.
