The information, while very comprehensive, is extremely accessible,
Though it's totally outside my field, I've followed changes in regional pronunciation for decades just as a personal interest. My phonetics dictionary is 50 years old and there have been changes in the IPA during that time, so this great book is getting me updated as well as helping me understand a lot more about phonetics. The best thing about it, other than the total coverage of the field, is that it's presented in discrete segments that can be studied separately depending on which aspect of the subject you want to concentrate on. You can start out anywhere in the book. My copy, though described as "good" I think, was actually brand new.

Huge amount of information for extremely low price compared to latest editions.
Great price on extremely informative reference. Just guessing, I'd say this very inexpensive older version probably has over 95% of the information of the newest edition. My copy was marked "used, good," but was actually mint condition. As an on-again-off-again sometimes novice, I'm looking forward to the concise explanations of such things as software defined radio (SDR) and other changes and developments in the field. This older version is all I need at the moment to see how things are developing. If I need greater depth or more up to date information I can always go to newer references. In the meantime I could hardly go wrong for $5.00 for a brand new 2016 edition.

If you're only going to read one mystery or history book, this should be it.
This is the amazing tale of Byron de la Beckwith's cowardly murder of Medgar Evers and how he was finally brought to justice -- one of the best crime and punishment books ever written, and it's all true. Evers was making great progress toward achieving civil rights and education access for Blacks in Mississippi, until Beckwith hid behind a bush in a field across the road from Evers's house and shot him in the back after he pulled into his carport and got out of his car. One of Bob Dylan's greatest songs "Only a Pawn in their game" was written about this deplorable incident, the pawn being Beckwith. A movie starring James Baldwin was made about this story, but the book is much better because it includes many amazing facts that were left out of the movie.
