The "perfect" ? travel tripod
1 of 1 found this helpful Well nothing is "perfect" and each persons requirements are different. My 3rd Manfrotto , a long serving 055c which is indestructible, but heavy. It would still be my first choice if there was not much carrying to do. A recently purchased 190 carbon, which is amazing and almost a contender with the Befree as a travel tripod, not being so compact, gives the Befree the edge, as it sits comfortably in your suitcase. The Befree has the same Manfrotto quality and although this is not the carbon model the difference in weight is negligible, but the price difference HUGE. I was not fussy about colour and managed to find this grey model for only £116. I researched the internet and looked at probably every model available, I actually purchased a carbon Siriu, but returned it immediately, it just was not stable. The Befree will take a DSLR body with a 70-200 f2.8 lens, I would not risk anything heavier. The locking mechanism for folding/splaying the legs takes a little getting used to, then becomes easy. I still use a larger ball head with the camera/lens combination mentioned, simply because I can. The ball head that comes with the Befree is still very capable. This is specifically a TRAVEL tripod and should be viewed as such, incredibly lightweight and folds very compactly. This should be used if you expect to use your tripod occasionally, with weight being important. If you intend to use for almost every shot, in my case I would use the 190, which is only marginally heavier, then add the weight of the ball head. You would be hard pushed to find another tripod able to compete in the price range, even if you pay 2/3 times as much the difference is marginal. For the price I consider this the best value for money, without losing performance and stability.
P.S. I have no connection with Manfrotto or any retail outlet. All these bought and paid for with my own money

Fine in manual mode
tried with 4/5 canon (new) L lenses, none would focus , all suffered from extreme hunting making it useless. I will use on my 150-600 lens in manual mode only. Now forced to pay over the odds for a Metabones mk V. Suppose you get what you pay for.
