Watch it only if you're a Motown fan and grew up in the 60's
Being a motown fan and growing up in the 60's when it was so popular, I was really looking forward to seeing this. But I am not, nor have I ever been, a Beyonce fan, so I didn't enjoy this as much as I would have liked. Jennifer Hudson pretty much steals the show, not only with her singing but her acting as well - the girl is nothing short of spectacular. If you were a teen-ager in the 60's and know alot about the motown singers and the things that happened back then, then you'll see how closely this movie compares with real events, such as how the song about Viet Nam by Eddie Murphy, which Jamie Fox didn't want to record, is based on Marvin Gaye's 'What's Going On', also about the war, and he too was criticized for doing a song out of character and about something the country was so passionate about at the time. Marvin recorded it, anyway. Or the child that Jennifer Hudson has with Jamie Fox is of course based on the love child Diana Ross had with Berry Gordy. Also, the different looks the Dreamgirls have throughout the movie is VERY close to the way the Supremes actually looked back then, as I could almost pin-point the years Diana actually wore her hair like that...or wore an outfit like that, etc etc., that's how closely they have Beyonce resemble Diana. For motown fans, it will be a wonderful trip back in time and a fun test of your knowledge of events from 40 years ago. For others, it will only appeal to those of you who are Beyonce fans and simply want to see her sing, because sadly much of the movie plot will be lost on you unless you lived through it.

Cannot recommend this one enough, just pure enjoyment
I don't think you could ever go wrong pairing these two together, the chemistry between them pretty much guarantees a wonderful movie. This one was no exception. I'm not really into 'love stories' but this one is so different from anything I've ever seen that it keeps you on the edge of your seat wondering how it's going to end. And it doesn't disappoint. Both are awesome actors and make their characters so believable, it's almost sad to keep telling yourself throughout the movie that they're really not a couple in real life, they're only acting. This has everything a movie should - laugher, tears, drama....and more than one 'OMG' moments, especially the ending. I could watch this a dozen times and love it just as much as I did the first time. Can't recommend it enough.

Boring movie, even Depp and Angelina couldn't save it
You would think a movie with these two would be awesome. But sadly, it falls short of what we all expected. I absolutely love Johnny Depp...my husband, of course, loves Angelina Jolie. So we were both looking forward to watching this. Although it was far from terrible and we did enjoy it, it certainly could have been better than it was. The storyline was great, it simply wasn't executed very well on-screen. The scenery was beautiful, as was Angelina, but there was zero chemistry between her and Depp. Maybe I've just gotten so accustomed to seeing him as Jack Sparrow, a very animated character who is nothing but pure entertainment on the screen, that this character as a 'real person' was destined to fall short. Would I recommend this movie? Of course. Would I want to see the two of them paired up again? Absolutely not.
