Great Price, Great Sound!!!
I'd like to address some of the negatives I've read from other reviews:
- Bad sound. It's important to realize that in typical use with a computer, you'll normally have at least THREE different volume controls (player, computer, spkr)! If the player AND the computer's volume control are maxed out it will definitely result in distorted, muddy sound. Personally, i set the spkrs at about 1 o'clock, my player at about 75%, and control general volume control thru my laptop. They also benefit from some slight 'nudging' thru equalization.
- Product failure. While it's possible to receive a faulty product right out of the box, considering the sheer volume of these spkrs sold, I'd say chances are slim of that happening. When I read about spkrs being 'blown' I can't help but think it's somebody who's consistently maxing out on the volume. The spkrs are designed for use with a computer, they're so good that people use them for parties. I don't think they're built with that in mind. If used normally they should be problem-free.
- I touched upon equalization before. I've been in the audiophile hobby for 35 yrs and while these aren't audiophile-grade spkrs, you CAN get very good sound from them thru equalization. You'd have to spend A LOT more money to get true high fidelity but lemmetellya, THIS ol' skool audiophile is completely satisfied!
