Good but not Excellent. Here's why...
It's all good but. Have you ever tried a pro Canon lens? Don't get me wrong I love my Nikon gear. The price vs quality and technology is great.
But I find that the zoom and focus operation is so smooth and even on Canon that it feels like you're handling priceless NASA equipment. It's feather touch. With only one finger rubbing on the ring it will move. And it will stay like that forever.
The Nikon 17-55mm is not feather touch. You need to grab the ring to turn it. That in itself is not a problem if you like it with a little resistance. The one I got was 5 years old and has an uneven resistance when operating the zoom. I don't think it will get better with time.
Maybe one day I'll be crazy enough to gear-up in both brands.

Reliable standard
It's simple precision, sturdy and can be recalibrate easily. We have been using this model for over 30 to level pool tables. We don't get any arguments from players when they see how sensitive the vial is.
