Ceramic Burr Manual Coffee Grinder Portable Hand Crank Stainless Coffee Mill New
01 January 2017
Excellent Grind, Read Instructions
This performs an excellent grind. My cheap electric grinder beats up the beans, and probably heats them up too, because the coffee tastes more bitter with a blade grinder. Burr grinders like this "break" the beans into pieces, and depending on the size of ground you want, it might break the bean several times, but there is no "heat" associated with electric grinders. My grinder arrived well-packed and pre-adjusted for coarse grind like that you might use for a coffee press. I turned the knob clockwise two "clicks" at a time until I had the right grind for my one-cup maker (Keurig with stainless "MyK cup" basket). Read the instructions and avoid the problem most people have on other sites: don't adjust the knob when beans are against the grinding wheels (adjust it upside-down after spinning the handle to ensure that no beans are in the wheels). Also, don't tighten it all the way down - that will make you try to grind the ceramic against itself, breaking it. I read somewhere that you should not grind this by holding it on a table or counter. Good call. I held it in one hand and turned the handle with the other. It was natural to hold it at about a 45 degree angle. Move the handle slowly and deliberately - you're not a machine and if you try to go fast, you'll jostle the beans from the coarse (initial) cutting burrs, preventing them from working deeper into the conical wheels. I moved the cylinder in circles as well as the handle. If you take care to grind it properly, you'll get a consistent, and rather fast grind. It's somewhat counter-intuitive, but once you relax, it's efficient and somewhat meditative.
