A love hate relationship
I both love and hate this machine. I have two dogs and a cat, even right after a vacuum, my carpet is a little hairy. So the part I love about this machine is that it is VERY easy to take apart and rinse/remove their hair from the nooks and crannies. It does a fair job of removing the cleaning solution from the carpet and the 30 ft cord is a nice bonus.
However, the bristles on the attachment tool does not spin and I don't think the attachment tool does a good job of pulling cleaning solution from the chairs/couch. If my dogs were not so well house trained/I needed this to clean pet stains from furniture, I would return it in a heartbeat.
Mostly what I dislike is the single tank cleaning solution system. Hoover has dual tanks, one clean and one dirty so you can dump the dirty without wasting the clean. This machine houses both in the same container so if you have a small mess to clean up, you better accurately guess the amount of cleaning solution you need or you have to make the decision of letting the dirty water ferment or toss good cleaning solution out. That being said, I think this machine is best for whole carpet cleaning, not spot cleaning.
The heating element was a big seller on this item for me. I was foolish in caring so much about that. There is no way to turn just the heating element on. It comes on when the entire machine is on so, sure, while you clean the water is staying warmer (I guess.. I've noticed no real difference because it doesn't take me so long to clean that hot tap water would cool off). I expected the Bissel to make the tap water really hot and it just doesn't. I know it's working because I can feel heat coming off the heating element when I remove the tank, but it doesn't seem to be THAT hot. I would be much happier if I could turn the heating element on and leave it to heat up before I start cleaning so the water is really really hot. I haven't tried just turning the machine on and leaving it (because of how loud it would be - imagine turning a vacuum on and just walking away for 15/20 minutes). I think Bissell makes a more expensive machine comes with that option.... I will say it took me about 20 minutes to clean my living room and the water was NOT noticeably hotter than the other carpet cleaners I've used.
Last, this machine really does dump water onto the floor whenever and wherever it is stopped and turned off. I now stop it on the kitchen floor so I can mop it up (and I am not entirely sure it's cleaning solution cause it's often dark when I mop it up). This is the third carpet cleaner I've used with any regularity, and the only machine that's had that problem. It's gross and the most annoying part about this machine.
