Nice idea - badly executed
I threw mine away within an hour of receiving it: the product is made of cheap plastic; it is flimsy; the dial wheel is clumsy; the lenses don't move properly; the optical quality - well, there is none. This product is a very good idea, but it has been manufactured to extremely poor standards. It cannot be used for the purpose for which it is marketed.

Highly recommended - I own half a dozen!
I have purchased half a dozen of these over the last few months and they are excellent value, very sturdy, reliable and very well made. I trust them on my tripod and monopod ball heads, as well as on my over-the-shoulder strap when carrying heavy 600mm telephoto lenses plus a heavy camera, and they have never let me down. My photography style includes action sports as well as wildlife, so I really need something that I can count on - and these are first rate. There is no down side.

Third edition of the "Nifty Fifty" is brilliant
1 of 1 found this helpful Improvements in focusing distance, body / build (not so "plasticky," and the new metal mount that replaces the old plastic one is very welcome. Focusing is lightning sharp, as are the images it produces - I believe the optics are precisely the same as the previous model, which was superlative, edge-to-edge. Every Canon photographer should have one of these - I always say, if I am to be stranded on an island and can choose only one lens to take with me, this would be it. It's pricing is the same as for previous models, so you're not paying more, despite the improvements.
