A NEW classic adventure
The first (and by far the best) tale of adventures of Master Li & Number 10 Ox in a "China the never was". Adventure, mystery, humor, suspense – the book has it all. The images are so alluring that on one hand you wonder why it hasn’t been made into a movie yet, and on the other hand you are thankful that it hasn’t been made into a movie since any film adaptation is certain to ruin the sensor of wonder that is in Barry Hughart modern masterpiece.

Just an Over-rated Mediocre Mystery
At best Dan Brown’s Da Vinci Code is just a mediocre modern day mystery with religious conspiracy overtones. The characterization seems like it came straight out of a 70’s made for TV movies. If you have read any mysteries before the plot is paper thin, the first time the true villain makes an appearance, it is basically a “well isn’t that contrite” moment. But it is a fast EASY reading novel. This book is just fine for lounging on the beach or passing the time on a cross country airline flight. Some people take the conspiracy overtones to being anti-catholic. I think this is just nonsense but if you are sensitive to this sort of thing you might be offended by this book. While others are upset about the Da Vinci Code because they confuse this work of FICTION, with fact. It is fiction, so what if the author says it is based on fact? Star Wars starts off saying in a "galaxy far, far away". IT IS STILL ALL FICTION. A much more interesting book, in a similar venue (modern day mystery with religious conspiracy overtones), is Foucault’s Pendulum by Umberto Eco. Be forewarned, Eco’s novel is a MUCH more challenging read but in the end is a more enjoyable novel. It is analogous to comparing cotton candy (Da Vinci Code) to a 12 course gourmet dinner (Foucault’s Pendulum). Both will satisfy hunger, both are a type of food, but the popular one is something which can be consumed casually and in the end leaves you wondering if you should have made an effort to consume something that would have been more fulfilling.

Traditional D&D brought to the Mac
Based on traditional D&D rules and characters but a very nice port to the Mac that is support of multiplayer as well as single player. A much better use of the benefits of computer gaming for D&D as compared to previous Forgotten Realms attempts, including Baldur's Gate and Icewind Dale series. Specifically, will work at practically with any screen size and resultion (game is NOT limit to 640x480 graphics), makes uses 3D sound effects (not just canned music and wav files), practical single player games (game play works great using just a single character, does NOT require a single player to manage a whole party). Story is fairly linear but adapts well to good or evil, as well as a variety of characters types. Also provide a great basis for a DM to set-up and run their own traditional multiplayer D&D game. The game is based on the 3rd edition Dungeons & Dragons rules. This RPG stays true to the pen-and-paper role-playing tradition
