Works in a pinch
4 of 4 found this helpful I bought this trying to cut corners on cost while building my home projection theater. After spending the bulk of my budget on a super nice projector, I figured I could just buy a cheap knock off to hold me over until I had saved enough for a nice tab-tensioned screen.
Although this screen will work in a pinch, I would recommend saving up your money and buying a higher end screen. This No-name, Made in China screen is just a waste of money. When I first opened the shipping box, I was sad to see that instead of the long, straight lines you would expect the case to comprised of, I was met with what looked to be a tube someone had bent over their knee several times and then tried to make true once again.
Not to be dissuaded, I pressed on. Hanging the screen was rather easy. There are two simple D-Rings that made it a breeze to hang from the ceiling. Or, if you would like to hang it from the wall, there are also some plastic brackets built in for that as well. Unfortunately, they are all fixed and cannot be adjusted in any way.
Controls are simple to use and consist of 3 buttons - Up, Down, and Stop. There is also a remote as well, but since you have to be standing a minimum of 3 feet away to use it, you might as well just stand up and pushes the button by the screen.
Pushing the Down button to start unrolling the screen produces the real reason I rate this screen so low. I could live with all the cheap short cuts the company took as long as they have a decent quality screen installed. NOPE! What unrolls is what looks to be an overstock white screen that has been painted grey to be touted as a "high contrast" screen. It wasn't that it isn't done well (I've painted a few on walls my self), it was the overwhelming stench of paint that this screen emitted once rolled out fully. It took a full three days of the screen being fully exposed before the smell became tolerable. AND if you like to watch movies on what looks to be the rolling surface of the ocean, this screen is for you. Fully unrolled, this screen has more waves than a Miss America parade float. From the center of the screen to the edges, there is nothing flat about it. It makes watching movies with any sort of panning almost unbearable to watch.
On a positive note, it hangs down from the ceiling the perfect distance for my projector - 16". Seriously, don't waste your hard earned money on this screen, save up and buy a better quality screen with an actual company name. I ended up cutting the screen off of this drop down roller and stretching it on my wall until I save enough money for a tab-tensioned roll down.
