The most reliable camera I've ever had
16 of 16 found this helpful I bought the Canon AE-1 brand new back in 1986 when I was a photography student. I am still using it after 20 years for weddings and birthday parties along with a 50mm f1.8 lens and a Tokina 80-200mm f4 zoom lens. The picture quality has only improved over the years thanks to new developments on film and photo paper technology. The camera is a little heavier than the new ones, but after 20 years I guess I’m used to it, although I use the tripod a lot. This camera is built like a brick. It has survived several falls and the only thing missing is the battery door.
I highly recommend this camera for its ease of use, automatic and manual exposure controls, robustness, availability of high quality lenses and dedicated flash units. I’m pretty sure that I will go digital eventually, but for what I have seen, the only one that would rival my Canon AE-1 is a Canon 5D but it’s way to expensive yet. For now, I’ll keep holding on to my beloved AE-1.

Expensive and hard to find but works great
As of December 2019 this ring is really hard to get. I use it for my Phottix Globe Diffuser on my Flashpint XPLOR 400 wirh Bowens mount, and it works great. I think it's a little too expensive for what it really does. However, built quality seems to be very good.

Impresive video quality
17 of 17 found this helpful I have borrowed this camera from my brother about 5 times and I love this camera. The video quality is amazing when compared with any other consumer camera. Actually, the VX2000 is supposed to be a prosumer camera, but it's so easy to use on AUTO mode. Although, you want to take advantage of the many manual controls for different lighting situations. You will hardly ever need a video light to shut indoors because the noise level is so low. The only thing I did not like is that the built-in microphone is a little delicate, it feels like it will fail very soon. You may want to get an external mic instead. As for the still images captured in the included card, forget about it. The max resolution is 640 X 480. Although the image quality is great, you can get much better stills with many of the new digital cameras on the market today for less than $500.
