This battery is life changing, a brilliant product
Now I know this review is meant to be about the battery, but I'd like to start with a shout out to the seller. This battery arrived in a package that could have protected a black market kidney, it was really that good. It could have been a kidney too, the package also included an Orbel Antiseptic Hand Rub, presumably to remove any bacterial residue the kidney might have been carrying. But I digress. I don't quite know yet exactly what the Orbel is, it's a rather large hard lump in a hermetically sealed pouch with instructions to rub it into a cupped hand, and with quite specific hand actions to follow up with. It scared me just a little.
The battery, what can I say? My shaver had reached a time in its life that it no longer shaved. It buzzed enthusiastically but the action of cutting hairs at skin level had ceased to occur, it was more a plucking action as the now pitifully short motion of the blades trapped any entering stubble with no chance of release. In case you're already bored, the new battery restored the shaver's ability to actually cut instead of the tear inducing extraction it had been doing. But there's more.
The experience of unpacking the battery from its genuine Panasonic cardboard box was unequalled. Battery unpacking usually involves scissors, bad language and blood, and one or two batteries bent so badly their voltage leaks out all over the floor. Whoever designed those bubble packs to keep the batteries encased needs a raise, they're truly impenetrable. Not so the Panasonic. Opening the box was no more difficult than a Pandora jewellery case, without the snap that takes off a finger nail or two. The battery inside was protected by an open top plastic bag, wildlife friendly with a breathing hole just in case a seagull decides to wear it as a sun hat and get it stuck on its beak. I always give extra points for that.
Removing the battery from its bag was on another level altogether, I swear the pure white heatshrunk casing of the battery had its own glow. The room brightened as the battery emerged, it was a surreal moment. I couldn't help but admire the perfectly formed nipples on each end, one helpfully labelled "+" to ensure its correct orientation in the shaver. Although they didn't seem to glow, they shimmered in the light of the pure white casing in a complementary way that had to have been engineered by a runway fashion designer. The casing also carries a recycling logo, more points, and at least two different language texts. More points for multi-culturalism.
With all the positives, I hesitate to say there are also one or two negatives. Firstly, all that beauty only gets to be hidden away. It seems like heresy to place an object of such beauty in a place it may never be seen again. I wanted to photograph it, upload it to every social profile I have, hang poster sized prints in my living room, and tweet it to Donald Trump. But I so desperately needed to shave that it was installed and relegated to the annals of history before I could fire up my Hasselblad. Shame. I really wanted to preserve its beauty.
The other negative? There's really not one, that was a tease. This product has changed my life in ways I could not imagine a battery ever could. In closing, if you need a Panasonic battery for your Panasonic shaver, buy this one, even if it doesn't fit. You can always frame it and display it proudly in your man cave. You won't regret it.
