It's even more useful than I expected
1 of 1 found this helpful So far, the remote control switches have worked flawlessly, and I have found them very useful, indeed. My first impression was that two controllers was a bit of overkill (and maybe an excuse for higher price), but it turns out that having controllers in two fairly widely separated places is a very handy thing. And I have found them absolutely reliable; there is no cross-talk between the five channels, and the "on" and "off" functions work quite reliably, even when the controller is not pointed directly at the outlet. Somebody had a good idea with these things, and somebody (same person?) did a great job of making it work. My initial impression was that they are a bit expensive, but they are really quite convenient, and I'll probably buy more of them when I want to improve the convenience of other installations in my shop. They save a lot of reaching and bending when I need to control devices that are all hooked up to a multi-outlet strip.

Bigger Quad from Syma
The X8HC is a considerably larger big brother of the (in my opinion) well-established 5 series of quads from SYMA. With a 2S battery, it flies about the same time as the littler ones (with 1S cell), although obviously the larger batteries cost a bit more. I like to have several reserve batteries so I'm not limited to one 5-10 minute flight; as far as I am concerned, the only negative about the X8 quad is the slightly greater cost of additional batteries.
The flight characteristics of the larger quad are very good; I encountered no unpleasant surprises. Like virtually all quads, the X8 does remarkably fast flips, although it does require a bit more space for the flips. But it is still quite manageable in our auditorium flying site, with is less than half the size of a regular basketball court. And those four big props DO create some active breezes!
