Studiocrossed
Okay, anyone who has read science fiction probably knows the name Harlan Ellison and anyone who knows of Ellison probably knows of The Starlost, a series created by Ellison and realised so badly that he took his name off it, using the pseudonym Cordwainer Bird. Ben Bova, author of Starcrossed, was hired as technical consultant for the series set aboard a massive colony ship in the far-future. The ship, like the series, came to grief.
Bova re-tells the story of the production in this book, a fun parody of the entertainment industry, big business, artistic betrayal and egos big and small. We enter a near-future where Los Angeles has overcome its smog by spraying itself with perfume, a perfect metaphor for Hollywood. In this reality, a failing studio hires a volatile writer for a ground-breaking science fiction series. From this tangled starting point of fact and fiction, we follow the fictitious series from high ideals through the bizarre, the banal, the backstabbing, the shirtfronting, the heartbreak and the comic stupidity that can kill an idea, each chapter looking at a different element of the show's creation.
Make no mistake, this is funny stuff. It is also a 220 page writers' guild in-joke but most readers will pick up on what is being done, even if they have not seen Cordwainer Bird's The Starlost. Bova is a clever writer, this is not high comedy but a loving skewering in which he may be exercising his own demons and maybe a few on behalf of Ellison.
Read it if you like Bova, read it if you like Ellison, read it if you have seen The Starlost, read it if you like TV sci fi, and read it if you ever want to write for television for, in these pages, there is truth.

Still on point
Stillpoint is the CD most Madder Lake fans remember. Butterfly Farm is said to be the best but Stillpoint is the one with the big hits 12lb Toothbrush and Goodbye Lollipop.
No matter which of the CDs you buy, you'll wind up with a great look into early-70s Australian music. Some reviewers call Madder Lake seminal or classic or some other cliche to cover the fact it's 40-something years old rather than point out why it is seminal or classic. Let's break the mold:
If you listen to Stillpoint you will hear sounds that were to come. Sounds akin to what Skyhooks may have come up with a couple of years later, what Russell Morris was doing about then, or somewhere into Thorpie territory.
The category is progressive rock but all the rock, pop, jazz and other influences make it more than that particular cliche.
The presentation of the CD is great, too, reproducing the original gatefold album cover as best as the smaller format allows. Even better, the CD contains a few extra recordings that let you feel how the band were live in those days or let you drift back into your own memories.

What more can I say? Ebay asked for a review and that's it.
