Will work on older models than 97.
Bought this kit to install on a 1989 FLHS. This was recommended by a guy on HD forums who said it worked on a 1990 frame. I had to cut out the metal between the 2 mount holes to create a slot, on the black mounting bracket, so the locking tabs of the backrest could line up properly but it works great.

Pricey but work
Replacing timing bolts for 1989 FLHS which broke on removing. They seem to work fine as they fit though more expensive than I would like.

simple and effective
After selecting the best reception location on my roof (hard to do using the antenna setup itself as it really needs to be stretched out with vertical separation of wood to minimize signal interference), and then installing the setup, I get 3-4 bars from 1. Not always consistent signal strength but that may be due to my location to whatever cel tower I'm locked onto. Definitely recommend it for this price. Had to install a 110 AC outlet in attic but well worth it.
