Easy upgrade for compatible motherboards
Purchased 2 Dell PowerEdge 860 1U servers to study both VMware and SharePoint. The processor that the unit came with was a Pentium 4-D class CPU. That processor works fine for most standalone servers but needing to run VMware ESXi on the unit required a CPU that supported the Intel VT technology and these CPUs did. Upgrade was simple, had to use new CPU Thermal Grease for heat transfer but BIOS recognized the processor immediately.
