Dead and Terrestrial
This product 'may' work under ideal conditions if you're lucky enough to receive it from the factory quickly enough with live bacteria.
Additionally the bacterium strains used are a terrestrial (land) type and cannot sustain an aquatic bioload (for long), hence why you need to continue adding for the life of your aquarium.
It may help in an emergency, to control ammonia and nitrite spikes but then outcompetes slower growing nitrosomas and stalls your tank cycling.
Honestly with potential risks better of using TSS or Seachem Stability that don't suffer these issues.

Voodoo Magic Balls
Purigen is FANTASTIC!
Don't use it in a new uncycled tank your BB needs time to establish.
After 6-8 weeks clean your filter media using tank water only and add double the recommended amount of purigen. Always place purigen at last stage of your filter flow so your BB still gets some level of ammonia /nirrite /nitrates.
Don't let Purigen expire or become saturated or you Will get a sudden ammonia spike as your BB colony that does exist isn't large enough to handle sudden rise in workload if Purigen is saturated and can't do its job.
Keep that in check and Purigen is magic and your water parameters are rock solid and water polished to a consistency of ultra clear.

Good size pellets and low ammonia conversion
Pellets are of larger size which means that one greedy fish in your tank cannot hoard them all before slower corries get to them. Everyone gets to graze.
I've also noticed when using these the TAN produced around 90mins Post feeding is quite low which is a good indication most of product ingredients are converted to useful food. Less poop =Less Ammonia.
