Worth the effort

As others have commented these are a very tight fit. I tried putting them in boiling water for a few minutes before using a mallet to tap them into the holes in the pan. They wouldn't go in so I tried again using some washing up liquid for lubrication before giving a sharp blow with the mallet - no joy - wouldn't go in past the bulbous bit. I lost my nerve at this point and decided to carefully reduce the wide part of the fixing with a sharp knife - repeated the boiling and lubrication and gave a firm whack with the mallet - success! Once inserted the fixing provides a very solid anchor. Note that the pack contains just one wellnut.
