Powercube: doing it right
3 of 3 found this helpful In Britain, we use one of the best power connectors in the world, though not every manufacturer quite reaches the standard. There are some awkward things out there.
This is not one of them. The Powercube range supports other types of connector, and there is a version that does USB charging as well, and the different angle of the connectors is often useful. That's the simple part of the idea. Getting the rest right is what makes the difference.
Forget about it being stylish, though it is. This is safe. There may be quibbles about the markings, things such as the CE mark are irrelevant to electrical safety, but it does carry a BS1383 mark, and it doesn't make any of the obvious mistakes. I have some test gear, and other types of Powercube, and it all delivers.

Basic sound from any computer
With my ears, I am maybe not the right person to trust over sound quality, but this fitted a specific niche and I can see other uses. There's nothing obviously wrong with the sound, but I can't hear high frequencies
It lets you connect speakers or a headset to a USB port, and that makes it compatible with modern KVM switches that have a spare USB port. It meant that I didn't have to worry about switching the sound connection ro a different machine.
It also means you can have a good-quality portable headset to plug into your computer. You can get USB headsets, but this is certainly cheap enough to try.
This is working fine with Ubuntu Linux, although it doesn't autoconnect as Windows can. You just have to manually pick the sound device. I don't think that's a problem. it can even be an advantage.

Not a kettle lead
These use the IEC60320 C13 connector, which is only rated to be used at temperatures up to 70 °C. Kettle leads use the IEC60320 C15 connector with a temperature rating of 120 °C
It is not possible to use a C13 connector to connect to the C16 connector on a kettle, it will not even fit.
