Andrew Jackson: His Life and Times by H. W. Brands
28 March 2018
Excellent Companion Volume
Excellent companion bio of Andrew Jackson to the other one I have read, by Marquis James from 1938, which I also recommend. James as a child growing up in Enid, Oklahoma, knew one of Sam Houston's sons. Sam Houston fought as a lieutenant under Jackson against the British in the War of 1812's Creek Wars and the Battle of New Orleans. Jackson was Houston's mentor and so Houston's son who heard this history from his father, brought it to life for young Marquis. H.W. Brands relates the story from his own angle and provides historical setting of the Jackson events, from a different and complementary angle than Marquis James.

Target Patton The Plot to Assassinate General George S Patton
13 March 2024
The inside story of how and why Patton was taken out.
TARGET PATTON is detailed and very factual, the author after a long search finds the original assassin alive and willing to speak as the gunman was near the end of life. He had never talked about his part in Patton's death before in this revealing way. The author does much other research and provides a complete context. The "Killing Patton" book by O'Riley is comparatively shallow. The book to read on the subject is TARGET PATTON.
