South Pacific (1958) is Pure Tropical Magic!
1 of 1 found this helpful This DVD of the 1958 "South Pacific" is a knockout - pristine, crystal clear, lush color, and excellent sound! This is Rodgers and Hammerstein's greatest score (in my opinion) and is performed wonderfully in this version. The stars are all very appealing especially Mitzi Gaynor, but they are in great competition with the gorgeous scenery. Josh Logan's use of color filters is also quite intriguing and adds an element of the ethereal to the production. The film version of the story is much more moving as it's not limited to stage production. So, don't miss this one - there will never be another Bloody Mary like this one OR a more rousing version of "There Is Nothin' Like a Dame"!!
