My acoustic guitar stings get dead pretty quickly. The coated strings aren't as bright to my ears. They also get dead fairly quickly, if not because of loosing their luster, because if you play hard like I do the strings get grooves in them over the frets (which also seems to make them deader. So for the best sound possible all the time I change my strings often, often between each performance. The significantly lower cost of buying these strings in quantity from Internet retailers, and the huge difference in price below the coated string costs, makes them a good and more economical solution for me. Incidentally, I can leave my electric guitar strings on longer. It's probably in part, but not entirely, because the subtle changes in tone are more noticeable on the acoustic guitar.
