Serious Subject of the Pearl Harbor fiasco dissected in layman's terms - Excellent
I am a retired artillery officer and have always wondered why Pearl Harbour caught the Americans totally unprepared. Never mind the fact a World War was getting ever bigger and Japanese policy in the 1930's, with the invasion of China, strongly indicated they were a risk. I also knew the US had broken the Japanese codes - so how come total unpreparedness? Well this book in simple, clear English written by a US lawyer in uniform, Colonel Clausen, for the duration painstakingly explains why.
He was detailed by H Stimson [Secretary of War] to determine the truth as politics and politicking in and between the services had clouded the issue. As usual, no great conspiracy but, a totally dysfunctional
intelligence system that was so incompetently managed it beggars belief.
The final Congressional hearings in 1945 agreed most of what Colonel Clausen recommended mainly a unified command and unified intelligence informing the government and that unified command. And when was the first war fought with this unification, 46 years later, in the 1st Gulf War in 1991!!
An easy read and fascinating to both military and non-military minded readers

HP Pavilion Batterydv83/69-96-97-98-99ea
My 11 year old 17" HP Pavilion is now genuinely portable again with a battery than holds a reasonable charge depending on software in use.
