Off-gassing nightmare
Excellent sounding headphones. Almost as good sounding as my Beyerdynamic DT770s at a fraction of the price. The bass response isn't quite as good, but no headphone compares to the Beyers in low frequencies. My main complaint is the wretched, olid, vaporous, terrible off-gassing of the tacky vinyl ear pads. It's so bad that when you wear the headphones you can smell it at all times. Sticking the headphones on your head is like putting your head in a bag full of smoke from a burning car tire. I thought "oh they're new it'll just take them a few days of airing out and it'll go away," but it's had some amazing staying power. I'm sure that these were worse than some, as I've known many people to use these headphones over the years and have never heard similar complaints. Luckily I found a link online to order a set of Beyerdynamic replacement velour ear pads that fit the MDR-7506. Those are on the way and not only will they hopefully fix the off-gassing problem, but they'll be a lot nicer on the skin ala the velour. Once I factor in the cost of the replacement ear pads they're not quite the steal they were, but still a fraction of what the Beyers cost, and much more portable with the collapsing hinges and the coiled telephone style cord. I will most likely buy another pair to have around for other musicians.
