Thought changing and still very appropriate in todays world of social divide
It served as an introduction to another world, and another class of people that existed in America when I was in middle school. I am now in my 60's and I still value the lesson it taught me about looking for the value in all people rather than the differences

A life changing experiance, Highly recommend
1 of 1 found this helpful I first read this book in High School back in the 70's. This, and other Steinbeck novels, helped me start looking at people, who were different than myself, as individual people, not just as a member of whatever group I was linking them with. I found Cannery Row to be one of the pieces that helped open my eyes, and my heart, to the diversity of mankind, something we could use a little more of these days. Steinbeck is one of the greatest American authors, and Cannery Row is one of his finest works. Highly recommend this book.
