The Gypsy Dolls, children's book, is illiterate. Do NOT recommend!!
I finished reading The Gypsy Dolls by James Wilkinson. Whoever edited this booklet should be fired. To have published a booklet for children with so many grammatical errors is an embarrassment. Did no one read this booklet aloud before sending it to the press? Page 7, line 14, the word "dolls" is possessive, not plural. The text is rife with mixed verb tenses! Page 8, paragraph 3, "The manager saw Don and gave him a huge smile....The manager reaches under the counter and brings out...". Page 11, paragraph 3, "The elderly Gypsy pulled out out a photograph and shows it to him." Page 12, line 18-19, "He never did. The stories of the dolls has been passed down..." Page 16, line 5, "Don pulls the photo out of the box and asked,..." Page 19, line 3, "Don mentioned for the two men to take the box. Very cautiously, they lift the box and...walk out the door." Aside from the mixed tenses, shouldn't "mentioned" be "motioned"? Page 20 is in present tense, page 21 is in past tense. Page 22, last line to page 23, "He climbed into his car and left for the airport. The Gypsies watch until he was out of sight." Are you cringing yet? I realize the books are printed and distributed, but a responsible publishing company would recall, correct, and reprint them. To leave them on the market is to contribute to illiteracy.
