Great camera for the used price.
3 of 4 found this helpful I work with many people who want to move from a point and shoot to a DSLR. The D200 is my top recommendation for those who want to be serious about learning the power of an SLR. The D200 has easy access to the power features of bracketing and ISO adjustment. Picture quality is great and the camera is extra durable.
The only complaints I have may be the size and weight and having no SD card slot. The camera is a bit heavy compared to a D3100. I have a SD slot on my computer and I prefer SD cards only because of that.
Don't get me wrong, I like the D300S better than any other Nikon I have used. The D300S is a bit more pricey and I like the D200 for a starter.

Great value, all around package.
This makes a great all around kit for getting serious about taking digital pictures. The Nikon D40 is a real easy to use basic digital SLR. I will plug kenrockwell.com also. He turned me on to this great value camera.
In my opinion the gem in this kit is the 18-200mm VR lens. This is really the only lens you need. It does have more weight than the 18-55mm lens but you have almost 2 lenses in one.
There are some drawbacks for power users. High ISO pictures turn out too grainy for most users. Getting to the functions like ISO requires you to stop shooting and go into the menu.
My Nikon D300s is clearly a better camera, but it should be given the cost.

Safe alternative wo window suction cup.
I like to use the Off Road Atlas app when I am in the Jeep out on the National Forest trails. I wanted a mount that was secure to hold my phone. You can velcro or screw the mount to the dash recess. I chose to use the screws to lock the mount in place. The spring loaded jaws securely hold the phone while bumping along the trail.
