Very worth it!
I bought the iPad Mini 3 to replace a first-generation iPad Mini, and I'm glad I did. There are a number of small but noticeable improvements over the already quite capable original iPad Mini. The Mini 3 has the faster A7 chip and twice the amount of RAM, so it feels speedier. The "Retina Display" on the 3 is exceptionally sharp and clear. I also like the fingertip sensor, and a growing number of applications now support Touch ID. And the gold color is gorgeous. The Mini 3 is just about an ounce heavier, which is probably mostly due to the higher capacity battery. But I'll take an extra couple of hours of battery life in exchange for a wee bit more weight. The next generation of iPad Mini will likely be even better, but for me, upgrading to the iPad Mini 3 from the original iPad Mini was a good choice at the right time.
