Palm Zire 21, still a good basic PDA
The Palm Zire was the third Palm OS PDA that Palm put out. It's an electronic replacement for the bulky pencil-and-paper DayTimer, DayRunner and Franklin address book/date books that self-important people lugged around during the 1980s and 1990s. It's got some cool features and functions that are quite useful. However, it is a creature of the technology of the early 2000s. It doesn't have a cell phone built in. It doesn't connect to the Internet directly. It doesn't show pictures or images. Heck, it doesn't even have a backlight, which is its main drawback in my book. It is compact and does many basic jobs. Those basic functions may be enough for many people. I didn't buy one back in 2002-2003 because I didn't want to spend over $200 for a gadget I really didn't need at the time. But in Nov. 2010, I bought this used Zire 21 for a bit over $17 including postage. There is a website that is still selling new Zires for $183!! As an IT guy, I'm expected to know about all the gadgets on the market. I finally got around to having a good look at this early Palm PDA. Palm still provides the basic software for the operating system, Palm OS v5.2.1 and Hot Sync software. There are still plenty of Palm OS apps available that run on the Zire 21. But the state of the art has moved on. Later Palm OS apps use color or higher resolution than the Zire can't supply. If you want a Palm OS PDA and don't need all the latest bells and whistles, the Zire 21 might do the job for you. And if you keep your eye on eBay, you should be able to find one under $50.

HP LaserJet 6L
I bought this to replace an HP5L which had electronic problems. This printer is in excellent working order, even better than my other 5L. I had just bought a new genuine HP cartridge for the old printer and didn't want to lose the $78 investment I made in it.
