Best of both worlds!
Incredible desktop and portable option! I love having the dock on my desk and carrying the wand with my laptop on the go. I can grab quick scans on the fly- and drop it in the dock for heavy duty scanning to my computer. It operates quickly and the quality is superior to my office scanner/copier/fax.

2000 Audi A8: All Wheel Drive Elegance
3 of 3 found this helpful Having had the other two German luxury-mobiles, the Audi A8 offers a great solution to the "I want a great, well built German luxury car that doesn't say SNOB." I have to drive clients around and show up at tenant properties, and it is tough to find a car that simultaneously says to the passengers that they can trust in the owner, and still doesn't tell the tenant that they are paying too much!
The Audi A8 (new generation in 2000) is an excellent example of solid German engineering. The exterior panels, crafted from aluminum- all fit solidly and lines match up with incredible accuracy. Doors and windows all have multiple gaskets and close solidly- creating a library-quiet ride. The interior is well designed with classy leather seating and accents- and soft to the touch insets on the doors. All controls are well thought out and easy to navigate, including the stellar- sounding BOSE stereo system. The power seats allow for levels of comfort unequaled in many other sedans, and the 6 position seat warmers in all four positions is a must in the winter.
All this luxury does not come at the sacrifice of the ride. This car is incredibly responsive, and handles well at almost any speed. The AWD system is one of the best, and remains sure-footed in almost any situation- as well as any other vehicle could on packed snow and ice. With it's low center of gravity, we have discovered that it does better on packed snow and ice than even our Suburban 4x4 with posi-track. It is at home on the freeway, and comfortably cruises at 110 mph as comfortably and quietly as at 55.
At around 310hp, and featuring the tiptronic (manual/automatic) transmission- this great road car can still return real world MPG of up to 26 on the highway, and still be a lot of fun to drive! This is truly a "driver's car"- and while it doesn't skimp on the luxuries for the passengers, driving it will bring a smile to your face. Add to the fact that this car features a 5 star crash rating and side curtain airbags, and you will feel safe in this car.
Maintaining the Audi A8 includes synthetic oil changes, which cost around $100- can be costly, but they are on a 7000 mile interval which makes it a little easier to handle. Also, be prepared at 100k for the timing belt/water pump replacement- and the in-dash displays are prone to fading, so watch for missing pixels. We also had a seat-warmer fail, and repair requires replacement of the whole seating surface- so make sure they all work- it will set you back over $1000 for that repair too. The other notable problem is the headrests seem to slip their gears and freeze in whatever position they are in. This is also an expensive repair, but if you are handy there is a great DIY option available on the web, that costs next to nothing.
My A8 is also prone to paint chips. I am told that the hard paint that is on the car is durable and shiny, but at the sacrifice of "flexibility" and as a result, I have numerous little chips on the nose of my car. I have even repainted the bumper once- and it already has a new crop of them starting up.
In summary, if you keep in mind that German luxury cars do cost more to maintain- you will be hard-pressed to find a better value (and more driving excitement) in performance luxury vehicles. All that is missing is the front cupholders!!!

Ease of use, and a great value- put a Geko in your pocket!
GREAT PRICE FOR RELIABLE GPS & EASY TO USE!
I purchased this as a backup for another more elaborate gps that has a proprietary battery that must be recharged in the field. This unit takes standard alkaline batteries and they can be changed in the field- allowing for almost endless use if you carry spares. The Geko is so easy to use- I could set the waypoint or destination and hand it to almost anyone and be relatively sure that they would get there. Add to this it's small size and bright color- and it was easy to justify taking it along "just in case"- which I found to be quite often!
The only real drawback is it's lack of a basemap- but at this price/value- what can you really expect? We have used our Gekos (multiple) in many terrains and my son even used it for orienteering class in High School- and it always performed well.
