Super-zoom, twisty LCD, zoom during stereo videos - wow
2 of 2 found this helpful I love the spot metering, flexible LCD mount, powerful flash and great video mode with stereo sound and adjustable recording level (and wind filter). You can mute the noises the camera wants to make (even the fakey shutter sound) and it runs on 4 AA cells, I get days out of NiMh rechargables. Zoom is very quiet and can be used during video shots, which have good stereo audio even at 15fps and adjustable record level (rare). And diopter adjustment for the viewfinder! AF assist light works pretty well up to 10-12 feet.
OK, what I DON'T like (as much, anyway) - no hot shoe, no optical viewfinder (though decent electronic one), and only 5Mpixels, a little barrel distortion at the "wide" 38mm equivalent of the zoom (and I wish "wide " was more like 24-28mm), but GREAT 12x zoom. Red-eye reduction is better than nothing but doesn't always do the trick. Some people have had E18 problems with many Canons of this vintage not retracting or extending, seems to have something to do with dust or sand or grit in the lens barrel. And the lens cap falls off if you look at it cross-eyed (but comes with a leash). And you have to buy a lens adapter tube to put any filters on it (even for a UV to protect the lens surface since there's no auto lens cover and the real one keeps falling off) so it becomes MUCH longer to carry if you leave that adapter on (though chances of that sand/grit problem would seem to be eliminated then, too. The tube obviously does NOT retract when the lens does. And there's a little ring that has to be removed to put it on, and nowhere to keep the ring until such time as you take the tube off. Good time to have a camera bag with pockets, but which size will depend on whether you decide to leave the tube in place while carrying it. Good color balance, doesn't oversharpen, rarely gets noisy in low light unless you REALLY push it. Wish it had more pixels in the LCDs. Still, a great balance of a lot of things. At concerts these days sometimes they allow cameras without detachable lenses (like at SF Outsidelands) and this camera gets great shots from a distance, and the spot metering gets those spotlit stage shots just right!

Your basic decent Sony remote
No lights, a little differentiation by size of the most-used buttons, clearly someone put some thought into this remote once upon a time.

Good value for a basic 37mm metal filter adapter ring and UV filter
This should be an inexpensive must-buy for any owners of the Panasonic or Leica just to protect the lens surface. They arrived well packed, both adapter and filter threaded on smoothly and the lens cap does the job, with a fairly stiff spring and thick molded plastic. It's not a Leica filter at this price, but seems clear and well made.
