Monoprice Stereo Tube Amp System with Bluetooth and Speakers
11 February 2017
Great for the price
I wouldn't consider myself to be an audiophile by any stretch of the means but I have heard a lot of systems and for the price, this is great. Sure, it won't hold a candle to a $8,000 MacIntosh tube amp system (nor should it) but it certainly has much, much better sound than a lot of systems under $500. Maybe it is the power of suggestion but the sound is a lot 'warmer' and 'cleaner' with the tubes than I've heard on similar systems. It's hard to say how ... but it just sounds cleaner and more natural. The system I have in my living room is a Yamaha CRX 332, which is around $300. This completely blows that away. While the Yamaha has deeper bass ... the distortion is much less with the Monoprice. The speaker wires are much better quality with the Monoprice system. And the Monoprice has Bluetooth capability (with incredibly easy pairing) whereas the Monoprice ... and most sub $200 systems do not. The system looks amazing ... you'd easily think this cost $800 - $1500 if you just looked at it. It's quite a conversation piece ... I bought it for my office and when people see it, you'd think I drove a Bentley into my office and parked it on a shelf. People automatically say, 'This must have cost you some serious money' before they even hear it. It has great retro looks and the orange lighting in the tubes gives it a high end 'mad scientist' look. The downsides to this ... I purchased it here but could have saved twenty bucks had I purchased it directly from Monoprice. Live and learn. Also, the speaker chords are INCREDIBLY LONG ... yet the power chord is less than 3 feet long. I find that you'll need an extention strip unless the outlet is right near the unit. I feel like even a foot more on the extention chord would make things easier. Also, in a small office or room, there will be a slight odor from the tubes ... it's almost like ozone and dust burning. (though this is right from the shipping box) Many people who swear by tube amps love this smell and its a bit unavoidable with the hot tubes ... but it put me off a bit. The unit is heavy and well made and the 4 inch speakers fill a small room with some pretty good sound. For a bigger room, the 5 inch speakers might be the way to go. Overall, it adds some class to my office and acts as a conversation piece. The Rat Pack or Bocelli never sounded so good as it does on a system with tubes! Would I use this to play R&B or Rap? Probably not.

Not what I expected. Poor Sound Quality.
This wasn't what I thought it would be. The music sounded better in the film. I bought this because a lot of the songs sounded so powerful on surround sound, but when I played the disc (it was authentic and not a bootleg), its almost poorly remastered so they took out all the base and it sounds very tinny. Even the U2 track and the track from Peter Gabrielle during the opening battle sounded very watered down. All the rest of the music is a very ecclectic collection of period songs that aren't very listenable. Overall, I am glad I bought the disc used because I would have been dissapointed if I paid any more than $5 for this mess of a CD.

If you love British tv shows ... this ranks right up there with the best!
GREAT SHOW! I was so bummed when I made it through all the Footballers Wives series. I was glad to find out Shed Productions made this series called Bad Girls and it had the same cliffhanger suspense, fun characters and sexy drama. I bought a region free DVD player for under $40 and was able to watch all the seasons from the UK as the only series that was released in the US was Season 1. Well worth the cost of the DVD player because this series is so much fun to watch! Onto Hotel Babylon now!
