KUFA 10" Stainless steel Dock Line Spring HCS-12

Great dock springs
Normally these are used for mooring boats where the springs absorbs the shock of wave action on the boat protecting the mooring cleats on both boat and dock from fatigue damage. I have used them to moor my 20' floating dock to shore to absorb the shock of waves and changes in water level and they work great. Before these I had to constantly readjust and replace mooring ropes that had become frayed and stretched from the constant jerking caused by the dock being sloshed about by wind and wave action. Now I use stainless steel chains and these dock line springs and no longer have to worry about the dock lines. Perfect!

A blend of the weird and nior
China Mieville seems happiest when when writing about cities and societies that are familiar and yet twisted so they become weird and oddly disturbing. Where Perdido Street Station was an action story in a twisted vision of London, The City & The City is a noir whodunit set in two cities that are meshed together juxtaposing Western European old with Middle Eastern new.

Classic Heinlein juvenile
"Red Planet" is the best of Heinlein's 'juveniles' The tropes are those found in "Between Planets", "The Rolling Stones" and even "The Moon is a Harsh Mistress". On Mars, two teen age boys at the cusp of adulthood find themselves pitted against an imperial and uncaring Earth. Although they did not choose to fight, they find that their choices are either to do that which is honorable or betray their sense of right and wrong. By choosing the honorable option, they are forced into a conflict they do not fully understand, but they believe, from their limited perspective, that what they have chosen to do is right. As in all Heinlein's juveniles, the pace is fast, the choices un-ambiguous, girls more or less nonexistent, and good triumphs over evil. The locale is exotic but the basic dilemma faced by the protagonists is universal. Its a great book for a 8 - 12 year old.
