Fun & comprehensive
From the history and etymology of the characters to the cute cartoons-I’m thrilled with this purchase so far! My only suggestion-while I have my separate notebooks for practicing writing the characters; this book provides just a few lines. Perhaps a bit more practice space?

Just not good for chinese calligraphy
Perhaps I’m just used to my professional brushes; but trying to write characters with this, correctly, was impossible. The bristles are all uneven and the ink flows out very unevenly. I was needing something more portable to take to my frequent stays at the hospital because of a serious health issue. But the ink also leaked everywhere-luckily I had put it in a bag of its own, so damage was limited. Also, be aware, all instructions are in Japanese.

Beautiful book
But more of a coffee table book than a text to learn and practice chinese characters and calligraphy. Also, I wish it gave more on the regular, simplified style.
