Best movie I've seen in ages!
If I could give this movie more than 5 stars, I would. This works on so many levels -- as a romance, as a coming-of-age story, as a history of the 1960's, as an extended music video, as an exploration of what Beatles songs really mean, as a trippy piece of eye candy, and most impressively as a work of high art. Julie Taymor's vision is unique and breathtaking. From the first shot of Jude all alone on an empty beach, to the fuzz-metal version of "Flying" that plays over the second half of the closing credits, every scene is perfectly imagined and flawlessly executed. Every song lyric has been carefully analyzed to find the true motivation and personality of the character who must be singing it, and the story builds out of those various motives and personalities in a completely organic fashion. The result is an extraordinary experience. You will want to play it over and over; it actually gets better on repeated viewings.

Wonderful movie!
Based on Irish history and folklore, this is an engaging story purporting to be about the creation of The Book of Kells, from the point of view of a young apprentice. The animation art draws heavily from Celtic style, geometric and fanciful, and is gorgeously colored. And there are magical beings, and an adorable cat.
